A Sashiko Stitched Diaper: Beautiful Hand Spun Cotton
$55.00 USD
early to mid twentieth century
20 1/2" x 12", 52 cm x 30.5 cm
This charming, sashiko stitched, rectangular shaped textile is a diaper. It is stitched together of about three layers of hand spun, hand woven cotton that is dyed in a pale tint of indigo, known in Japan as asagi iro.
The hand spun cotton base is covered in irregularly spaced rows of white cotton sashiko stitches and the surface of the cotton diaper is lightly abraded on both sides and show some small breaks, all of which can be seen on the accompanying detail photos.
Really delightful, this is a small, rustic treasure from old Japan.
Beautiful.
