This is a very handsome zokin which is sewn from recycled, indigo dyed cotton cloth.
The cloth was dyed in the shibori method and probably was made in Tohoku, Japan's Northeast; the zokin is about four layers in all. The sashiko stitching, which covers the entire front and back surface of the zokin, is rustically executed and adds charm to this otherwise utilitarian cloth.
Zokin are traditional Japanese dustrags which are almost always made from layered and sashiko stitched scraps of cloth.
