An Indigo Dyed Tsutsugaki Panel: Elegant Objects
late nineteenth century
58" x 13 1/4", 147.5 cm x 33.5 cm
This is an indigo dyed tsutsugaki panel that was taken from a larger, stitched piece, a futon cover.
The hand drawn images that decorate this hand spun cotton length are charming and are skillfully rendered: there are several of them and each represents something delightful and might possibly be related to elegant manners or the tea ceremony.
Among the esoteric images we can see a peacock feather and what might possibly be a water pot for the tea ceremony, a mizusashi.
The length is in good, used condition and of course there is some light fading and some overall wear to the piece which is consistent with its age.
Super charming.
