A Laxly Woven Length of Indigo Dyed Hemp: Kaya
$55.00 USD
ca. early to mid twentieth century
60" x 13 1/2", 152.5 cm x 34 cm
This is a wonderful length of rustic, indigo dyed hemp cloth. This is a panel from a kaya, or mosquito netting, hence the very loose, open weave of the cloth.
The color is a beautiful, deep, warm blue; the hemp yarns are wiry and have taken the indigo dye in a slightly uneven fashion, which adds to the country appeal of this length.
In looking at the accompanying photos, notice that the warp and weft yarns, when dyed, are a bit unruly: just wonderful to see.
A lovely length of old kaya.
