A Wonderful Striped Boro Panel: Stripe on Stripe
$85.00 USD
ca. late nineteenth century
68" x 14", 172.5 cm x 35.5 cm
A very handsome panel from an old futon cover, this boro length is hand stitched from three, separate pieces of hand loomed indigo dyed cotton cloth and is reinforced by 7, hand-applied patches.
The wide, white-and-blue striped cloth is emblematic of the type of hand woven cotton cloth that would be used for fashioning futon covers in the late 19th century. The patches add beautiful contrast to the base and this combination of stripe-on-stripe has great visual appeal.
A quite good-looking length of old cotton boro cloth, in good condition for its age.
