A Wide Sakiori Obi: Woven Checks

$125.00 USD

mid twentieth century
116" x 9 3/4", 294.5 cm x 24.5 cm

This is a good-looking sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cotton cloth as its weft yarn.

Its coloration is in the red tones with some dull greys, beiges and blacks in the mix. The obi is woven with a checkerboard effect.

The warp yarns are of black and brown dyed cotton which give depth of color and tone to the obi. Some of the weft yarns are slubby and thick and in one instance they are bulging out of the warp yarns which can be seen on one of the detail photos attached to this post.

This kimono sash is in good, used condition--it is sturdy and the colors are handsome.

A beautifully toned folk textile in a fairly unusual color palette and a good example of a sakiori obi.
