A Very Good Length of Layered Boro Cloth: Two Good Sides
late nineteenth, early twentieth century
62" x 13", 157.5 cm x 13 cm
This is a length of boro cotton cloth that is more richly textured and colored in person than it is on the accompanying photos where a lot of its dimension and details are not as obvious as intended.
Each side of this cloth is very different from the other and each has its visual merits, so please take time to peruse all the photos posted here to see both sides of this piece.
The side which is highlighted here is rich in layers of old cottons, each of the many patches hand stitched to the base cloth.
There are many patches which are overlapping each other which is what you want to see in an old boro cloth--the colors, too, are very good, with just enough variety as to heighten visual interest yet restrained enough to show good age.
A really good old boro length, taken from a futon cover.
