A Simple and Beautiful Hand Spun Cotton Boro Fragment: Botanical Indigo

$35.00 USD

late nineteenth century
38 1/2" x 13 1/2", 98 cm x 34 cm

This short length of indigo dyed cotton is being shown for its wonderful ito aji or its thread flavor, a characteristic that is very important in considering old, Japanese folk textiles.

The boro length is made of hand spun, hand dyed cotton which has been indigo dyed and mended with four indigo dyed cotton patches.

A simple piece of wonderful, hand woven cotton from old Japan, this one is particularly good for its thread qualities, its rich color and its pared down aesthetic.

Just beautiful.
