A Short Length of Layered Boro: Purple and Blue
early to mid twentieth century
45" x 13", 114.25 cm x 33 cm
This is a lovely length of boro cloth that is beautifully layered and patched. The base cloth is an indigo dyed cotton which is woven in a checked pattern. This cloth is used as patching and is placed along side large cotton pieces that are of a pale violet color, the arrangement of which is blocky and geometric on the finished piece.
Because of the dark color of the indigo cotton, it is difficult to see who complex the patching and layering is, but it is more complex than meets the eye.
A very good piece of boro cloth and one with good graphic appeal, good stitching and good patching.
