A Shibori Dyed Diaper: Lightweight Cotton
mid to late twentieth century
22 1/2" x 12 1/2", 57 cm x 31.75 cm
This loop of lightweight cotton is dyed in the shibori method.
This is a typical traditional Japanese diaper; by "loop" we mean that although the dimensions, above, state that this is "22 1/2", "57 cm" long, it is actually twice that since this cloth is doubled up on itself and hand stitched to form a "loop."
The shibori decoration is lovely and more complex than most shibori diapers which were dyed using the clamp dyed or itajime method; the indigo is likely not botanical.
Were the stitching of this diaper undone, it would make a lovely, casual scarf or home accessory.
Really lovely.
Great shibori.
