A Sekka Shibori Han Juban: Gauzy Cotton
mid twentieth century
shoulder to hem: 25 3/4", 65.5 cm
sleeve tip to sleeve tip: 35", 89 cm
This is indigo dyed cotton han juban or half under kimono that is clamp resist dyed in the itajime method. The pattern that results from this itajime shibori is referred to as sekka or snow flower.
The under garment's cotton is lightweight and very soft--almost gauzy and the sekka shibori is dyed well. The cotton collar of the piece is a faded olive green color. The han juban is entirely hand stitched and wearable, however the cotton is a bit clingy.
In good, used condition, this is a very handsome old han juban that is made of good looking clamp dyed shibori.
Very attractive.
