A Sakiori Obi with Decorative Passages: Rag Woven Kimono Sash

$175.00 USD

mid twentieth century
124" x 7 1/2", 315 cm x 18.5 cm

This is a beautifully woven and rather rare form of sakiori obi, or a traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.

It is rarer and much different from other sakiori obi because of the several passages of decorative design details that are woven into the fabric: the nicely chosen colors enhance these areas in a way that heighten their presence on the length.

Details such as this are not often seen on rag woven obi and the added design features on this obi are expertly thought out and executed.

This hand woven sakiori obi is in very good condition, with no visible holes or stains, and it is a very handsome example of a traditional, sakiori weaving.

A beautifully woven, elegant rag woven obi with rich color and detail.
