A Rustic Obi: Reds and Yellows
mid twentieth century
96" x 7 1/2", 244 cm x 19 cm
This rustic obi gives the impression that it is sakiori or ragweave, but in actual fact is seems to be woven from a indigo dyed cotton warp with what appears to be weft material that is thick cotton and woolen yarns.
The indigo warp gives the overall color scheme a rich tone. The weft is fed in blocks of white, yellow, mottled red and a mottled multi-color, creating a striped pattern up the length of the obi. The overall visual result is a fairly uniform, striped design rendered in handsome colors.
The condition is good and used and there seems to be very little damage or wear to this piece.
Just lovely.
