A Sakiori Obi: Dramatic Sharp Triangle Pattern

$95.00 USD

mid twentieth century
116" x 8", 294.5 cm x 20.25 cm

This is a dynamic-looking and rare type of sakiori obi, which is a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cotton cloth as its weft yarn.

Most noticeable are the white-toned wedges that slice into the design of the obi from left and right; the dark colored field that offsets the light triangles is mottled and in tones of purples, reds and black.

The warp yarns are of black dyed cotton which give depth of color and tone to the obi.
This kimono sash is in good, used condition--it is sturdy and the design is desirable.

A beautiful, richly toned folk textile with a fairly unusual design--a good example of a sakiori obi.

Recommended.
