This boldly designed, resist dyed fragment shows a one-half a traditional Japanese design motif which is a well cover.
Usually the well cover is shown as four intersecting parallel lines much like a #, however in this case the well cover is set on a diagonal and its component lines are wider than normal.
The way this design is place on the cloth and its position on it is wonderful to look at. The indigo dye is still deep and velvety, an inky blue color.
The cotton is heavy and woven tight and the condition is good.
