A Ragweave Obi of Saturated Colors: Sakiori Kimono Sash
mid twentieth century
108" x 6", 274.5 cm x 15 cm
This is a lovely sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cotton cloth as its weft yarn.
Its coloration is based in narrow bars of saturated color in a rather regulated width that travel up the length of the obi--the colors are quite strong.
The warp yarn is black in color that, when woven against this brightly colored weft, mitigates the loud tones and dials them back a bit from their raw state.
This kimono sash is in good, used condition--it is sturdy and the colors are handsome.
This is a beautiful, richly toned folk textile in a fairly unusual color palette and a good example of a sakiori obi.
