A Piece Contructed Indigo Dyed Kasuri Coat: Seemingly Unused
mid twentieth century
36 1/2" x 48", 92.5 cm x 122 cm
This beautifully executed and seemingly unused jacket is hand stitched from three patterns of indigo dyed kasuri cotton. It is beautifully finished under the sleeves and on the side openings at the bottom of the coat.
The patterns and how they are arranged is more than likely the result of happenstance but the jacket is beautiful because of this.
The color tones and the patterns are subtle with the exception of the collar area where the kasuri pattern is somewhat bold. Two areas of striped cotton on the collar portion are a nice foil to the color and pattern of the jacket.
The coat is slightly starched so it is a bit stiff, although not exceedingly so.
The dimensions above are shoulder to hem x sleeve tip to sleeve tip. If you are interested to know more about the dimensions of the coat feel free to email and ask.
Wonderful.
