A Piece Constructed Cotton Sleeve Lining: Pink, Red, Blue

$35.00 USD

ca. early twentieth century
25 1/2" x 14", 64.5 cm x 35.5 cm

This is an interestingly colored piece-constructed cotton textile; it was a sleeve of a juban or an under kimono, which typically were made of pieces of repurposed cloth.

The indigo dyed cotton seems to be hand loomed while the pink cotton--probably dyed in benibana or safflower--appears to be power loomed.  The deep, rich red cotton is dyed using a chemical dye.

The length shows the creases left from its life as a sleeve and there is also some ingrained soiling from wear (shown in the attached photos) that also recall its former life.

A lovely, old length of piece-constructed cotton.
