A Patched Boro Cotton Length: Stripes on Stripes
early twentieth century
67" x 13", 170 cm x 33 cm
This is an interesting and subtly patterned indigo dyed boro fragment; it is a panel from a futon cover that shows stripe-on-stripe patching--very muted and beautiful.
The length itself is light faded which makes for an interesting play against the applied patches: it provides more variety of design diversity within the panel than if the faded sectors were not present.
This boro length shows very nice age and some very good hand work where the piecing and the patching are concerned, and its soft colors and low contrast is really lovely.
A wonderfully good looking old boro length.
