A Pair of Juban Fragments: 19th Century Botanically Dyed Silks
$45.00 USD
ca. mid twentieth century
each: 40" x 6", 101.5 cm x 15 cm
This pair of silk fragments are extremely lightweight and flyaway: they weigh practically nothing and they are extremely delicate.
How fitting, then, that the stencil resist dyed katazome pieces are dyed in indigo and show flowers and butterflies--the lazy, meandering trail of the butterflies is illustrated as looping lines that fill up the background of the design.
The orange silks are dyed in benibana or safflower, and their color is still quite vibrant, even after 100 years.
Just beautiful!
