A Narrow Length of Deeply Dyed Indigo Kasuri: Cotton
$35.00 USD
ca. early twentieth century
48" x 10", 122 cm x 25.5 cm
This fragment of indigo dyed cotton kasuri cloth is very tightly woven and is heavy in the hand. The old cloth is in good condition and it feels very "durable" to the touch.
The indigo color is deep and dense. The kasuri, or ikat, is simple and lovely, and although the basis of the patterning is in the warp-based kasuri design, there are flecks of white resist dyed yarns that flicker through the weft. Really subtle; really elegant.
A lovely piece of kasuri dyed cotton from old Japan, and one with a sophisticated air.
