A Long Piece of Indigo Dyed Cotton Shibori: Yukata Cloth
$75.00 USD
mid twentieth century
128" x 13", 325 cm x 33 cm
This is quite a long piece of indigo dyed cotton shibori from Arimatsu, Japan's unofficial shibori capital.
The cotton is commercially woven and it lightweight. It was taken from a yukata or an unlined, casual kimono. As such, halfway into the length there is a slit which is now stitched closed (shown on the detail photo here). The reason for this is this is the shoulder area where the cloth would have needed to be folded in order to affix the collar.
The pattern is abstract and the condition is good and used with no discernable stains or discoloring.
