A Length of Zanshi ori: Leftover Yarns and Vestiges of Kasuri

Zanshi ori is cloth woven from threads that are either leftover from home production of yarn making, or from broken threads that were purchased from local commercial weavers.

Usually the weft is fed with these random threads while generally the warp is regulated producing an irregular horizontal 'striping'; if home threads are used, knotted slubs can often be seen.

This deeply toned length of indigo dyed cotton zanshi ori was clearly woven from leftover kasuri yarns as we can see vestiges of emerging images on this length of old cloth.  The broken, barely-there pattern is woven against a fixed warp of black and blue colored stripes.

There are two patches both of which are shown in the detail photos attached here--and there is one small hole which is also shown.

Really good.

Recommended.
