A Length of Tsutsugaki Dyed Cotton: Lyrical, Beautiful Cultural Images
$145.00 USD
late nineteenth century
59" x 13 1/4", 150 cm x 33.5 cm
This is an indigo dyed tsutsugaki panel that was taken from a larger, stitched piece, a futon cover.
The hand drawn images that decorate this hand spun cotton length are charming and are skillfully rendered: there are several of them and each represents something delightful: a feathered tool to fan coals, a kind of mythical rain cape and a hibachi used to heat water.
The length is in good, used condition and of course there is some light fading and some overall wear to the piece which is consistent with its age.
Super charming.
