A Length of Stylized Kasuri Cotton: Arrow Feathers
$60.00 USD
ca. early twentieth century
59" x 13 1/2", 150 cm x 34 cm
This is a length of hand loomed cotton which has been dyed in the kasuri or ikat method.
The color is a very deep black/blue, more black than blue. The pattern shows a warp kasuri design, one which is very traditional in Japanese textiles, that of the yabane of arrow feather motif. There are six columns of kasuri dyed yarns which are interspersed by narrow bars of a yellow dyed cotton warp yarns, creating a contrasting effect to the dark and spare fields of kasuri.
A lovely length of old cotton cloth with a delicate and traditional Japanese woven motif.
