A Length of Striped Cotton with Kasuri Passages: 19th Century
$75.00 USD
late nineteenth century
63 1/2" x 13 1/4", 161 cm x 33.5 cm
This is a beautiful length of cloth with a simple yet wonderful "accidental" detail.
The warp-based stripes, a lovely combination of colors in interesting proportion to one another, are intersected in the top half of this length by stray, weft-based white kasuri yarns that form elongated exes, probably the result of using leftover yarns to feed the weft.
This is a lovely, undoubtedly unplanned detail that makes this length of cloth unusual and unusually beautiful.
In good, used condition with the exception of a small hole, very hard to see.
Recommended.
