A Length of Striped Cotton: Gradient Tones

$45.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
42" x 13 3/4", 106.6 cm x 35 cm

What an attractive length of old,Ā striped cotton.

Shown here is a panel that is woven in a striped pattern composed of regularly spaced stripes of varying widths, creating an effect that is meant to suggest a waterfall.

This pattern is emblematic of textile designs from the 19th century in Japan and, aside from this historical connection, it is an absolutely beautiful design on its own.

The cotton is of a nice quality and the black and silver color tones suit the optical effect of the traditional woven striped pattern. There are some ingrained creases but otherwised this handsomeĀ length of striped cotton cloth is in good, used condition.
