A Length of Stitched Shibori: Two Tones of Rich Indigo
mid twentieth century
60" x 12 3/4", 152.5 cm x 32.5 cm
This is a richly colored length of indigo dyed cotton shibori that was once part of a yukata or a casual, unlined summer kimono. Because of this there are ingrained creases that are impressed onto the piece from its time as a yukata.
The cloth shows two tones of indigo, each deep and saturated in color.
The resisted design of interlocking, horizontal rows of ovals is done by stitching: the staining of deep blue in between these rows of white circles shows how the cloth was gathered before it was dyed.
A nice, long piece of indigo dyed cotton shibori this shows an elegant pattern and good design. It is is good, used condition--and please do note one small stain to the cloth shown in detail on the second photo here.
Wonderful to look at.
