A Length of Shibori Dyed Cotton: Rustic Plum Blossoms and Miura
early to mid twentieth century
46" x 12", 117 cm x 30.5 cm
This is a length of indigo dyed shibori cotton which shows a curious, medallion-like motif that is at first not discernible.
Looking closely at it it seems to be a rustically rendered plum blossom set inside a ring or a circle. These strangely rendered images are set against a dappled background of large-scale miura shibori.
The base color of the cloth is pale blue and the dappling is dark blue. There is a faint stain to the piece on the middle, left of the length hardly noticeable in real life which is shown on the detail photo that accompanies this posting.
The cotton is of a good weight and there seems to be nice age to this length.
This length is rich in tones of indigo and bears an unusual design--the length is lightly starched.
Beautiful for its charming rendition of a plum blossom.
