A Length of Shibori Dyed Cotton: Large Scale Chrysanthemums
$30.00 USD
early to mid twentieth century
27" x 13", 68.5 cm x 33 cm
This is a length of indigo dyed cotton shibori that was produced in Arimatsu, one of the towns in Aichi prefecture that was a leading producer and innovator in the production of shibori.
The pattern shows a design of playfully stylized, stitched shibori chrysanthemums that offer a whirling, meshed-gear effect in the way they are conceived and executed.
The shibori is dyed onto a length of commercially loomed, fairly lightweight cotton and is in good, used condition. Note the small tear to the bottom, center of the piece.
Wonderful to look at!
