A Length of Shibori Dyed Cotton: Four Petaled Flower Forms
early to mid twentieth century
25 3/4" x 13", 65.5 cm x 33 cm
This is a length of indigo dyed cotton shibori that was produced in Arimatsu, one of the towns in Aichi prefecture that was a leading producer and innovator in the production of shibori.
This particular length shows four petaled "flower" shapes that are set inside a repeat of stitched and dyed diamond-shapes. The resulting image is bold and delicate at the same time--and please not the faintly discolored center flowers at the top of this length which are shown in the detail photo here.
The stitched pattern is dyed onto a length of commercially loomed, fairly lightweight cotton and is in good, used condition.
An especially good shibori dyed pattern.
