A Length of Richly Toned Katazome Cotton: Delicate Pattern
$95.00 USD
late nineteenth century
29" x 14 1/4", 73.5 cm x 36 cm
This richly toned length of indigo dyed katazome cotton seems never to have been used--or if it was it was done lightly.
The all over pattern is a delicate one that is composed of flowering trailing vines, each quite narrow and with touches of bengara or an orange-toned, iron oxide resist derived dye.
The indigo tone is rich and luminous and the cloth is hand woven.
This is a beautiful length of Japanese katazome cotton which seems to have some influence from India.
