A Length of Piece-Constructed Katazome Cotton: Hand Spun Yarns

$85.00 USD

early twentieth century
71 1/2" x 12", 181.5 cm x 30.5 cm

This quite long length of indigo dyed katazome cotton is in fact two, long, narrow pieces stitched up the center and these two pieces are composed of five smaller ones.

It shows an often-seen pattern of chrysanthemums against a background of arabesque; the white-on-blue type of katazome dyeing is more prevalent than blue-on-white.

What is extra-nice about this length is the good quality of the cloth: it is hand woven from hand-spun cotton yarns. The tactile sense from this aspect of the cloth is a desirable trait in old folk textiles.

Please know there is a bit of pull or torqueing at the bottom of the length and by its nature it does not want to hang flat.

Generous in length this is a versatile length of very good katazome cloth.
