A Length of Patched Katazome Cotton: Boro

$115.00 USD

late nineteenth century
67" x 13 3/4", 170 cm x 35 cm

This is a fantastically beautiful length of indigo dyed katazome cotton which has been repaired on its "wrong" side with about 20 small patches, all in indigo dyed cotton.

The resist dyed, figured base cloth is just beautiful as its hand woven from hand spun cotton fibers and is decorated with a repeat of rustically rendered peonies in a field of arabesques or karakusa.

The cotton is very soft and faded from years of use and the patches with stud the back surface of this length add a great deal of charm to the piece.

A classically beautiful boro textile, this length has the age and thread appeal that one looks for in old Japanese folk textiles.

Recommended.
