A Length of Patched Indigo Cotton: Rich Plaid

$75.00 USD

 ca. late nineteenth century
74" x 13 3/4", 188 cm x 35 cm

This hand loomed length of indigo dyed cotton shows a plaid that is composed of wide blocks of medium tone and deeply colored blue weft  contrasted by narrow, white and pale blue striped warp yarns.  The cloth is tightly woven and of good weight: the color is rich and beautiful.

On the plaid base there are three patches: the most prominent one, an intricate and tight checked patch, shows in photos as being a maize color, when in actual fact it falls on the blue spectrum.

An elegant and beautiful length of old, hand loomed, hand dyed Japanese cotton.
