A Length of Patched Boro Kasuri Cotton: Grape Vines

The repeat pattern of grapes on the vine, rendered in the kasuri technique as it is shown here is not often seen on folk textiles.  Apparently the grape carries no significant symbolic meaning and it is depicted simply as a way to convey a sense of beauty.

The length is mended with 6 patches, one of them on the central portion of the length is quite large. The manner in which the applied patches subtly fracture the repeat pattern is a visual treat and quite enjoyable to see.

The length is rather supple in texture and the indigo tone is rich. The cotton yarns seem to be hand spun.

Overall this is a special length of cloth and one that does convey the beauty it was intended to show.
