A Length of Old Katazome Dyed Cotton: Beautiful Hand Spun Yarns

This is a length of old katazome dyed cotton, the cotton base cloth is beautifully hand woven from wonderful hand woven yarns. This piece has a beautifully textural quality for the reason of this tetsumugi or hand spun yarn.

The repeat pattern is that of quite inventive, stylized chrysanthemums that must have been a strong orange tone when the cloth was first dyed; the flowers now have faded to a very attractive, soft, brownish-orangeish tone which looks really nice set against the warm, faded indigo color of the background.

There is one patch as is easily seen. As stated above this length of katazome has good age and can easily be dated to a bit before the late nineteenth century.
