A Length of Northern Shibori: Piece Constructed Fragment
late nineteenth, early twentieth century
41" x 12 1/4", 104 cm x 31 cm
This quite worn fragment of very attractive, graphically bold northern shibori is machine stitched together from separate 4 pieces: by the looks of it the machine stitching was done a very long time ago.
The pattern of wide-shaped circles is really charming and although the cloth is broken is some areas the visual impact of this cloth is still strong, as is the indigo color.
The broken pattern emits a rustic charm and the rich pattern is really fun to look at.
A wonderful piece of old, indigo dyed cotton shibori that has a great deal of charm and visual delight.
