A Length of Faded Hemp Boro Kaya: Loosely Applied Patches
early twentieth century
80" x 12 1/2", 203 cm x 31.75 cm
This is a handsome and wonderful length of boro, rustic, indigo dyed hemp cloth. This is a panel from a kaya or mosquito netting, hence the very loose, open weave of the cloth.
The color is a faded, mottled pale blue/green--beautiful and time warn. The hemp yarns are wiry and they give a beautifully rustic appearance to this length.
There are seven patches applied to this boro length, each of which is abraded from years of use and as such, they have come slightly undone from the base which is very evident when looking at the detail photos attached here.
This is a charming and really lovely length of old, hemp boro kaya with very good patching and lots of character and thread integrity.
