A Length of Miura Shibori: Two Tones of Blue
early to mid twentieth century
53 1/2" x 13 3/4", 136 cm x 35 cm
This is a length of miura shibori which shows a dense field of all over dark blue dappling on a light indigo dyed blue ground.
This length of shibori dyed cotton was taken from a yukata, an unlined summer kimono, and because this cloth was once part of a garment, it shows ingrained creases from wear.
From a distance the machine loomed, lightweight cotton cloth appears to have a slightly mottled, blueish tone, but upon closer inspection the dense pattern of hand tied spots can be seen.
A lovely length of traditional shibori dyed cotton which was dyed on lightweight, commercially loomed cotton, its tone on tone pattern is especially good.
