A Length of Miura Shibori: Stenciled Pattern Over

This is a length of cotton cloth which has been dyed in the miura shibori method. Over it two vertical rows of interlocking rings are stenciled in a black dye.

The length is bold and visually interesting and it seems to have been taken from a futon cover or a duvet. There is a very, very faint cast of yellow to the left side of the length, not noticeable when seeing the length in person but slightly noticeable in photographs.

As well there is one lentil-sized hole which is 11" from the top and 4 1/4" in from the left.

The length shows a kind of bold design characteristic of this kind of small batch cloth made in Japan during the 1930s, 40s and 50s approximately. This one is particularly interesting.

The stenciled chain might be applied in a dye that is not fast so it is advisable not to wash this length as the black dye might run or bleed.
