A Length of Miura Shibori: Blue on Blue
late nineteenth, early twentieth century
52" x 13", 132 cm x 33 cm
This is a length of miura shibori which shows a dense field of all over dark blue dappling on a lighter toned indigo dyed blue ground.
This length of shibori dyed cotton was taken from a yukata, an unlined summer kimono, and because this cloth was once part of a garment, it shows slight ingrained creases from wear.
From a distance the cotton cloth appears to have a slightly mottled, blueish tone, but upon closer inspection the dense pattern of hand tied spots can be seen.
A lovely length of traditional shibori dyed cotton which was dyed on what appears to be hand loomed cotton, its tone-on-tone pattern is especially appealing.
