A Length of Itajime Dyed Cotton: Wonderful Pattern

$75.00 USD

early twentieth century
23" x 12 3/4", 58.5 cm x 32.5 cm

This length of lightweight cotton is dyed in the itajime method, a resist dye technique which uses carved boards and applied pressure to resist the cloth in order to produce patterns.

This particular fragment of cloth shows a section of an all over repeat pattern in mirror image, the components of the pattern are cherry blossoms and maple leaves.

The length is light faded in an uneven way with a large amorphous zone in the it center (pictured), it has mild surface abrasion, faint stains and some small holes, also pictured.

A lovely and collectible length of resist dyed cotton both for its technique and its beautiful pattern this is a handsome fragment of itajime dyeing.
