A Length of Indigo Dyed Shibori: Rustic Plum Blossoms
early to mid twentieth century
55" x 12", 140 cm x 30.5 cm
This is a length of indigo dyed shibori cotton which shows a curious, medallion-like motif that is at first not discernible.
Looking closely at it it seems to be a rustically rendered plum blossom set inside a ring or a circle. These strangely rendered images are set against a dappled background of large-scale miura shibori.
The base color of the cloth is pale blue and the dappling is dark blue. There is a faint stain to the piece, hardly noticeable in real life which is shown on the detail photo that accompanies this posting.
The cotton is of a good weight and there seems to be nice age to this length.
This length is rich in tones of indigo and bears an unusual design.
