A Length of Indigo Dyed Katazome: Crane Roundels

$65.00 USD

early twentieth century
36 1/4" x 12 3/4", 92 cm x 32.5 cm

This is a length of indigo cotton that has been dyed in the katazome method.

The length shows a repeat pattern of cranes rendered as roundels along with chrysanthemums against a background of arabesques.

This type of pattern was dyed onto cloth that was used for futon covers or duvets.

The design of the pattern is simply done and the tone of the indigo is still nicely deep. The length shows wear from use but it is in good, used condition. Note some "flaws" in the katazome dyeing which add charm to the length.

Simple and delightful.
