A Length of Indigo Dyed Katazome Cotton: Roundels and Arabesques
**reduced from $90.00**
late nineteenth, early twentieth century
35 1/2" x 12 3/4", 90 cm x 32.4 cm
This length of indigo dyed cotton katazome cloth shows a large repeat pattern of roundels set against a field of arabesque.
The roundels seem to be a stylized flower while inside it we see a center of a chrysanthemum surrounded by what might be super-abstracted phoenixes.
The arabesques are rangy tendrils that creep over the surface of the design; some orange-red highlights are used judiciously to create interest in the pattern.
The cloth shows some light fading and wear but overall it is in good, used condition.
Beautiful and bold.
