A Length of Indigo Dyed Katazome Cotton: "Glowing" Tachibana

$60.00 USD

early twentieth century
31 1/2" x 121 1/4", 80 cm x 31 cm

This is a length of indigo dyed cotton katazome with a repeat of large-scale tachibana which is a kind of Japanese orange that is also a popular family crest that has a very long history of use in Japan.

The tachibana shown here are rendered as they usually are--they are a very distinct form which is easy to identify. What is interesting about their presentation is the glowing ring of "light" which radiates from each of the tachibana. The use of gradient sized dots around the image--and the density they are placed in--is an interesting, and unusual, visual effect.

The length is still of deep toned indigo, there is some wear and slight surface scuffing due to its age, but overall it is in good, used condition.

This is an unusual and very attractive pattern and one that is recommended.
