A Length of Indigo Dyed Cotton Kasuri: Happiness
$90.00 USD
early to mid twentieth century
72" x 13", 183 cm x 33 cm
This is a length of deeply toned indigo dyed cotton kasuri most likely from Kurume, an area on Kyushu island well-known for its distinctive style of ikat or kasuri weaving.
This length is graphic in appeal and shows a repeat of large white or undyed characters. Here we see a stylized version of the Chinese character or kanji for the word happiness or fuku in Japanese.
The cotton is sturdy; the indigo is inky blue-black. The cloth is in good, used condition and the kasuri images are strong and make a bold visual impact.
Lovely.
