A Length of Indigo Dyed Boro Cotton: Threadbare
early twentieth century
54" x 13", 137 cm x 33 cm
This is a good looking length of indigo dyed boro cotton. It is hand stitched from repurposed cloth, three pieces in total, and it bears six mending patches.
The bottom most piece of cotton is threadbare--it is almost translucent when held against the light--and shows a bit of loss in the crease of the selvedge edge.
What is interesting about its threadbare quality is that it illustrates how hard these old indigo cottons were used during their many lifetimes of service. The wear and age also bring out a new beauty in the cloth that is only possible with the passage of time.
A lovely, simple panel from a boro futon cover this is a nice addition to any collection.
