A Length of Hand Spun Cotton Katazome: Rich Field of Repeat Pattern

$55.00 USD

late nineteenth century
24" x 13", 61 cm x 33 cm

This is a wonderful, short length of very good, hand spun, hand woven cotton which is dyed in the katazome method. The quality of the yarns and weaving the cloth indicates that it dates more than likely to the mid-to-late nineteenth century.

The scale of the pattern is beautifully proportioned to the size of the cloth. The pattern shows a nicely crowded field of stylized pine bark, plum blossoms, snow flakes and what appear to be sunrises.

The cotton has faded to a beautifully warm medium blue tone which enhances the entire design.

This is an extra-good quality length of old katazome cotton with an especially attractive design.
